WOMEN WHO 1

In the first of our Women Who series a series of short insightful interviews with some of our favourite Kin.

We thought we'd start off with our very own Creative Director and all-round powerhouse Ngoni Chikwenengere.

Ngoni, 24, Creative Director, London/Northampton/Wherever my mother is.

Where do you go / what do you do when you’re stuck for Inspiration? When I'm stuck for inspiration I hit the road by that I mean I run or I travel. I also meditate and read I love learning new things.

If you weren’t a designer/blogger is there anything else you could see yourself doing?I would actually love to do something charitable and hope to do so in the future. While I love design I've always wanted to do more, to impact the world around me in a way that is practical - you see this already with our breast cancer t-shirts.

"Also I think I'd make a great competitive eater - there is nary a box of pizza I can't finish!"

What personal rules do you abide by?

What personal rules do you abide by?
Work hard and be nice to people. It's simple really but sometimes people forget one or the other.

What inspires you as a creative? Love, Architecture, the world I round me. I am constantly inspired by the world around me you'll find me snapping away, making notes or sketching.

Who are the women that have influenced you most along this journey?  What have you learned from them? My mother is just the most inspiring and resillient human being. But I have soo many other friends who have been there for me and the brand in soo many ways and to list them would be such a disservice as I would for sure forget someone. But they have all taught me or rather given me female friendship and support that I had never had before. They've shown me that women can be incharge and still be kind.

What is your personal definition of happiness? Happiness to me is being strong and healthy and surrounded by the ones I love... it's also a solid Cacio e Pepe made by my mother.

How do you define the ‘modern woman’? The modern woman to me is whoever she wants to be. I believe we are now in a generation where groundwork has been set up for us to flourish and really own our power! The modern woman to be is a woman walking in her own truth.

How does being in the city itself impact your work and life? London itself will always light a fire under you! There is always something going on, someone to speak to and something to do.With our factory in Bow and our fabric suppliers all over the city I've come to know East pretty well and I just love how each part is soo different and diverse. It's a cacophony is of intriguing sights and sounds.

What drives you? What is your definition of success? My drive is knowing who I want to be and where I want to be, I have big dreams and I will make them a reality. Success to me is having my healthy spiritually, mentally and physically and having the most fun with the ones I love. Success to me is a life full of laughter.

What’s next for you? Growing We Are KIN is whats next to me. Spearheading a brand and growing it while still being sustainable and responsible is so important to me. Next up we have a lot of irons in the fire and I'm excited for you all to be a part of that.
